The House of Dior has proven every season that the savoir-faire behind its delicate clothing is just as mesmerising as when it is sent down the runway or witnessed on the red carpet. Indeed, the French fashion house unlike anywhere in the world, is highly praised for the most detailed of craftsmanship. For Spring/Summer 2022, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri interpreted the beloved heritage scarf in a more graphic key and titled the “D-Jungle” scarf, it has become the must have item of the season.

With exquisite motifs designed by artist Pietro Ruffo, the vibrant creations combine animal sketches with graphical elements and are screen-printed onto pieces of silk. The ancient process – and arguably an endangered craft – sees long pieces of fabric fed through a plane frame printing process which we’re told “essentially acts as filters”.

Each colour from sunshine yellows, sky blues and vibrant shades of pink uses a separate screen. For example, a scarf using 28 different colours will be passed through the screen 28 times lending an incredibly precise and detailed layering of paint. A technique not often used. According to Dior, there is just four or five screen print manufacturers in the world where there was once hundreds of them.

As seen on the runway, twist the scarf through your hair, around you head or on the straps of your very own Dior Vibe bag. The accessory can also serve a mini swimwear coverup in the warm weather or as a top with endless ways of styling.
