Second prize winning pieces at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show included talent of brioche knit, mosaic knit shawl, Nuno felted on chiffon scarf and a wet felted oven glove.

Highly commended prize-winning pieces included a woven bag in two colours, wet felted bag with pattern design, bag made in scrumble using different colours and shapes, bag by mosaic crochet and clutch purse which is wet felted with fish net knitting worked into the felt.

THE South Gippsland Spinners and Fibre Arts Group placed two entries in the team category at the recent Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show – the largest show of its kind in the world, placing second and highly commended. President of the South Gippsland Spinners and Fibre Arts Group, Janice Graham said the team category required five articles showcasing a minimum of three different crafts using a minimum of 60 per cent wool. “The group chose a theme for each entry, one black and white and the other bags of different types, and thanks to the outstanding talent of the ladies, the group were awarded second prize for the black and white theme and highly commended for the bag theme,” said Janice. “This show is the largest event of its type in the world where some of the country’s most passionate food, fashion and fibre lovers gather to celebrate the mighty Australian sheep.” The second prize winning pieces included the brioche knit hat by Glenda Beresford. Mosaic knit shawl by Noelle Walker, mosaic crochet cushion by Christine Heward. Nuno felted on chiffon scarf by Janice Graham and a wet felted oven glove by Pam Reynolds. The highly commended prize was awarded to the woven bag in two colours by Glenda Beresford, wet felted bag with pattern design by Pam Reynolds, bag made in scrumble knit by Noelle Walker using different colours and shapes, a bag by Annie Reviera in mosaic crochet and slightly obscured at top clutch purse which is wet felted with fish net knitting worked into the felt by Janice Graham. “There is growing interest in all thing’s fibre which the South Gippsland Spinners and Fibre Arts Group promote in the local area with tutorials, guest speakers and training for those wishing to learn new skills, be it spinning, weaving, felting, knitting, crocheting or beading,” said Janice.
